Minimalism
A few years ago I got interested in minimalism as a way to feel serene in a maximalist world. Own less to create more space and freedom for what truly matters.
Over time, I developed three simple principles that help keep my material life feeling good.
- Stop buying things: The first step is to stop the influx. Think twice before buying any object. Keep your belongings down to what brings true joy or serves a real purpose. Consider quality over quantity.
- Focus on experiences: Much happiness is found in quality time with loved ones. Spend more on immaterial experiences. Treat yourself to that spa day, plan that weekend trip with friends, invite your partner to this yummy restaurant.
- Get rid of stuff: Regularly go through your belongings and separate yourself from the excess. Sell items online or donate them to a local charity. Don’t feel bad about letting go of gifts you don’t use or like – other people’s choices don’t need to clutter your life.
I hope you found value in these few words. With the start of a new year, maybe now is the perfect time to think about what you want to let go of – and what you want to fill your life with?
